One of the principal means of passive fire and blast protection is enclosing and shielding areas with barriers. Fire and blast barriers play an integral role in managing potential hazards. Fire and blast is interrupted by the shielding of a blast as well as limiting the spread of smoke and flames from one area to another. Fire and blast barrier systems include walls, ceilings, floors and doors.

Fire doors are fundamental to the integrity of a fire barrier system. Operable opening such as doors provide an access point between compartmentalized areas. To minimize the break in protection the doors within these barriers must provide the same adequate protection as the barriers themselves.

The DuraBarrier DuraSystems recently launched a new pre-engineered modular barrier, designed to protect people and property. DuraBarrier has been recognized by FM Global as an exterior transformer separation and will help prevent the spread of fire.
