DuraSystems “Zero Clearance” Kitchen Exhaust Duct System meets the requirements of NFPA-96 and is ULC Listed under Guide No.'s 440 E5 and 440 E9.  The system consists of a series of prefabricated duct sections that are joined together using mating bolted flange connections. If desired, the flanges may be welded in lieu of fasteners.  Each connection consists of a male / female joint which provides a secure air, grease and fire seal and results in a smooth interface.

The system is a double wall construction system with the outer wall of the duct constructed from a single skin of 9.5mm (3/8”) thick DuraSteel sheet.  The inner wall of the duct is a welded construction using 16ga mild steel with 304 & 316 stainless steels being optional. Low profile, perforated metal cover strips are applied over each flange connection.  The duct system is suspended on steel threaded rods and angle iron support cradles that have been tested under fire conditions and are subsequently integral to the ULC Listing.

The minimum permitted clearance to combustible construction is 0 mm.  In addition to providing an internal fire resistance, the duct can withstand external fire conditions and is ULC Listed with a 2 hour fire resistance rating, Guide No. 40 U21, System No. FRD-2, making it a fire-rated shaft.

DuraSystems kitchen exhaust duct enclosures are an alternative to our prefabricated duct system or competing products.  DuraSystems enclosures offer a space saving and compliance driven alternative to other products.  Tested to ASTM E119 together with a New York City MEA provide the product with a high level of pedigree.  The DuraSystems enclosure provide virtually eliminates heat transfer and offers a zero-clearance-to-combustibles system.

The DuraSystems kitchen duct enclosure is self supporting and does not rely on the duct for support thereby eliminating the potential for collapse of the system is and when the duct displays high temperature metal creep from fire conditions.  Systems which are not self-supporting are at a risk of duct movement which could potentially jeopardize the integrity of the system.

DuraSystems offers a durable, rigid system which can take the real-world mechanical abuses typically seen in construction.  Our rigid system resist the tears that pulling cables or sliding pipes and/or conduits can put in fibrous duct wraps, during both construction and renovations in the years top come.

Other applications for this system include standard HVAC ducts, chemical fume hood exhaust, trash and laundry chutes.  Any horizontal or vertical shaft which passes through a fire rated assembly or conveys combustibles materials is an excellent application for the DuraSystems Duct enclosure system.
