Laboratory Safety and Air Quality
Regardless of the type of laboratory, safety and air quality are paramount concerns. Laboratory environments must be designed to address concerns like chemical contamination, proper air ventilation and a specific level of sterility. It is imperative to have the proper ventilation control and air quality system in place. One key system is the lab exhaust.
A perfect example of why air quality is so critical involves an American fertility center. To control the newly designed in vitro fertilization laboratory, an air quality control system was implemented. This system supplied filtered air to the laboratory, as well as other related areas deemed critical. The result was an increase in live birthrates.
The same holds true for fire protection systems. For instance, owners of restaurants, as well as gas, oil, and chemical plants, always worry about fires. In addition to causing extensive property damage, fire poses a serious risk of human injury and even death. The good news is that with the right systems, potential damage and danger is dramatically lowered.

With a lab exhaust system, laboratory environments are safer and have improved air quality. For a superior product, DuraSystems is known as the most respected and trusted source. Along with fire walls, barriers, and panels, we manufacture various types of ducts and exhausts that help reduce the risk of fire while improving air quality.
One such option is DuraDuct LXD. This single-wall laboratory exhaust system is designed with flange connections. Included is a liquid tight and chemically inert gasket seal. Because of the design, field welding for contractor fabricated laboratory duct systems is eliminated. For added flexibility in achieving the required airflow in limited shafts and shallow ceiling spaces, this duct system is available in round and rectangular footprints. A 2-hour fire rated DuraDuct LXD option is also available, if required, to provide a zero clearance fire rated liquid-tight laboratory exhaust duct system that requires no field welding whatsoever.
DuraDuct LXD is constructed in either 304 or 316 stainless steel, with seams that are fully welded. As a result, there is a flat surface for easier gasket application. Overall, this duct system is effective, economical, and complete. If required, factory-installed and pressure-treated access doors can be added. For all laboratory settings, the best way to achieve safety and air quality is with the right system. At DuraSystems, we manufacture solutions that meet the customer’s needs.
