BESS Fire Separation Barrier for limited spaces

Recent “explosive” growth in the renewable energy generation market results in an expanding market for battery storage which, in turn, reveals unique safety challenges.

BESS units alone are a large capital expense and disruption to the power supply is often devastating. The loss of a single unit is less than ideal; however, in the event that a fire occurs, it is critical to control the spread of fire to prevent the compounded loss of assets and personnel.

After decades of proven success with fire barriers, DuraSystems is proud to introduce BESSY™ passive fire protection. This modular fire barrier system is available with 3 levels of fire protection, to suit site-specific fire protection requirements.

BESSY™ can be positioned to prevent the spread of fire in several situations:

• Between adjacent BESS units
• Between transformers and BESS units
• Between BESS units and other equipment or structures

The modular construction of BESSY™ barriers allows for simple installation with a small crew and lifting equipment.

BESSY™ barriers can be removed and/or relocated as site requirements change.

BESSY™ barriers are fully customizable and can be individually designed to suit specific site requirements, removing the need for adapting the site for installation.

Introducing the three levels of fire protection now available with the BESSY™ system:

BESSY™ 
Our most tried and tested system offers stability and integrity for 6 hours, along with simplicity in installation and removal. BESSY™ is a modified version of our highly successful DuraBarrier^® SF, used for exterior transformer fire separations.

BESSY™ 120 
This 2-hour fire rated barrier is based on our UL/ULC listed non-load bearing wall. Interlocking tongue and groove joints allow BESSY™ 120 to be easily installed and removed.

BESSY™ 240 
Based on our UL/ULC 4- hour listed fire barrier, BESSY™ 240 is perfect for applications requiring greater thermal protection where space is limited. The modular design provides superior fire resistance while allowing for simple installation and removal.
